The annual meeting was held last night with a smaller number in attendance
than usual, no doubt due to the record breaking weather, but the spirit
and enthusiasm of the members who attended was in no wise dampened.
After the financial statements were reviewed and approved by the members, a
number of ideas were put forth especially in regards to getting our local MPs
and MLAs involved in our struggle for recognition.
After these ideas were duly noted in the minutes, the meeting proceeded to
electing the new directors of the Bras d'Or First Nation. Erich Burton,
Sheldon Ferneyhough and Glenn Burton all resigned as of April 28, 2009.
Donna Foster and John Burton choose to continue in their roles as directors.
Raymond Donovan was elected by overwhelming support as the new Chief of the Bras
d'Or First Nation, while John Burton agreed to occupy the role of
vice-chief. Donna Foster will continue in her role as secretary, while
Elva MacNeil will continue in her role as an Elder.
We would also like to thank Erich Burton for all the work and effort he has
put into making the Bras d'or First Nation a reality and wish him the best as he
pursues other interests.
Sincerely,
Raymond Donovan
Chief, Bras d'Or First Nation
